Popular Facebook group Coach Drivers North & South (CDNS) is to make history by becoming the first online community of its kind to dedicate a cup in memory of one of its members at the UK Coach Rally.

Well-known Stanley Travel coach driver Malcolm West, who is a member of the CDNS administration team told CBW: “This trophy is dedicated to the memory of Bernie Porton and will be presented to the Coach Drivers Coach of the Year at the UK Coach Rally, which will be held in Blackpool this April 23 – 24.

“This will be the first online coaching community to be allowed to sponsor a trophy in the history of the rally and we are proud of this fact.

“Bernie’s family are delighted we have named the trophy in his honour. Bernie’s last wishes were for a donation at his funeral to made to our ‘fighting fund.’ Fellow members of the CDNS administration team decided to give a little back with this trophy, so 50 drivers will be battling to have their name in pole position on the trophy. Thank you everyone for your continued support. This trophy will be awarded annually at forthcoming rallies.”

Bernie, 67, died peacefully on June 19, 2015, in his armchair whilst at home preparing for one his regular groups outings. An employee of Sussex operator Heritage Coaches, he was a familiar sight in his pride and joy – Neoplan Cityliner coach, registered ‘2851 NX.’
