Stagecoach will offer a discount to pensioners on its Oxford Tube service to compensate for the withdrawal of the concessionary coach scheme on October 31.

Stagecoach said the change could have seen senior citizens being charged full adult fares on the Oxford Tube between London and Oxford, however, the company will offer a 20-25% discount giving them the same fare as students and young people.

Stagecoach spokesman Chris Child said: “We are pleased to be able to continue offering senior citizens great value on the Oxford Tube.”

Stagecoach added the changes to the government’s review not only impacts the popular Oxford Tube but coach services from around the country. Free local travel from Oxford to Lewknor or Hillingdon to London for English national concessionary pass holders remains unaffected by the spending review, the company confirmed.
