Plymouth Citybus announced the replacement of its Freedom Card for a new smart card system called ‘the key’ on August 14.

All of the Go-Ahead Groupowned company’s 170 single and double decker buses will be fitted with the ITSO platform before the card launch, as part of a government initiative to have all free concession travel use recorded directly by ticket machines.

Andrew Wickham, managing director at Plymouth Citybus, said: “We have over 8,000 customers who have already enjoyed the benefits of the Freedom Card that was introduced in 2005. Most of these have now transferred to the key system so that they can continue to enjoy the benefits of the no money to pay on boarding system.”
