Stagecoach South has introduced six new Optare Solo SRs to its Bognor Regis town network as part of an investment worth over £700,000.

Powered by Cummins ISBe5 4.5Lt engines, the new vehicles feature CCTV, and have a passenger capacity of 28 seated, plus 17 standing.

Five of these vehicles will be used on the busy Star route which runs up to every 10 minutes between Bersted and the town centre, as well as to Felpham, Middleton and Elmer up to every 20 minutes.

The new vehicles replace Optare Solos that are now seven years old and which have now been displaced to other routes or to other Stagecoach operating companies.

Stagecoach South Managing Director Andrew Dyer, said: “With many new housing developments around the town now underway I see more bus routes in the years to come as we respond to that growth. We believe that by continually improving the quality of our service, we will encourage more people to leave their cars at home and try the bus. People are becoming more environmentally aware and realise the bus is good for the environment with great value ticket options.”
